Tom won his eighth OffWestEnd Best Director nomination for this radical, musical reinvention of Shakespeare’s bittersweet romance, co-produced by Guildford Shakespeare Company and Jermyn Street Theatre.
Framed as a memory play, the production delved into themes of grief, love and forgiveness, accompanied by a two-piano soundtrack including Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, and Judy Collins.
The production was nominated for five OffWestEnd Awards, including Best Production, and played to standing ovations in St Nicolas Church, Guildford, and then at Jermyn Street Theatre. The cast included Ian Charleson Award runner-up Hannah Morrish as Helena, alongside Tom’s regular collaborators Gavin Fowler and Miranda Foster. Stefan Bednarczyk arranged the music.
